So far in 2015, I’ve had the opportunity to share this project in a live performance context with about 550 people. This shot is from a recent show at North Park University.
It’s become apparent over time that Seven Years is not a static piece of work, but a body of material still evolving and developing new layers of meaning along the way. In the next several months, we’ll be adding a couple more songs and also working some stories based on interactions with former refugees into a more digestible and professional format.
Working toward that goal, I am challenged by something I read in Stephan Bauman’s book Possible. He writes, “Too often we seek to be a voice for the voiceless when we should be clearing the way for the voiceless to speak for themselves.”
